The 9043-MRX is the machine type of the IBM Power E1050, the four-socket 4U enterprise system that sits between the Power 10 scale-out line and the node-based E1080. It reaches 96 cores and 16 TB of memory with ten internal NVMe drives, in a single chassis rather than a multi-node frame.
The E1050 is the machine type people land on when a scale-out box has run out of sockets but a four-node enterprise frame is more system than the workload or the room can justify. Four sockets in 4U is the whole proposition. It reaches roughly twice the core count of the S1024 without the floor space, power draw and installation complexity of the E1080.

Two-socket and three-socket builds are supported, so intermediate core counts between the rows above are valid configurations.
Selected Power 10 models were withdrawn from marketing effective 31 July 2026. Installed systems are unaffected, but sourcing a processor upgrade or an MES expansion now depends on availability for that specific feature code. Confirm current supply before building a plan around adding cores. On a four-socket machine this matters more than usual, because socket-level MES expansion is the normal growth route for an E1050.
How to confirm you have a 9043-MRX
From IBM i
DSPSYSVAL QMODEL returns the model portion and DSPSYSVAL QPRCFEAT returns the processor feature code. Those two values identify a 9043-MRX build exactly, which is what a vendor needs to quote parts or an upgrade.
From AIX, Linux or VIOS
lsconf reports the machine type and model in the first lines of output. prtconf gives the same plus processor implementation and clock speed.
From the HMC
Managed system properties shows machine type-model and serial together with installed against activated cores. On Power 10 those two core numbers frequently differ because of capacity upgrade on demand.
From the bezel
The 9043 prefix is shared with the Power 11 E1150, which is 9043-MRU. The suffix is the only thing separating the two generations in a parts lookup, and modules are not interchangeable.
